All that Glitters

Author, Mike Martin, has created a singularly unique concept in The Sergeant Windflower Mystery Series by blending police procedures with Cree spiritual traditions. All that Glitters is a cleverly crafted and elaborately complex book wisely presenting a myriad of human foibles and the challenges faced by his protagonist, Sergeant Winston Windflower, as he interacts with those around him.

The author will invite you into the Windflower home and introduce you to Sheila, his wife and his daughters Amelia Louise and Stella. Each of his children presents their own unique challenges.

He must come to grips with his new role as Community Safety Officer while being pulled back into his previous career as an RCMP officer. You will share his trepidation and triumph, anguish, and elation as he and his friend, RCMP Corporal Eddie Tizzard come up against a cagey and resourceful criminal. Windflower must dig deep within himself because everyone looks to him for stability in the midst of chaos when a man is murdered in his B&B; an RCMP leader’s life is extinguished suddenly; and his good friend Doctor Sanjay goes missing.

Martin will take you on a journey vicariously through Windflower’s life. This book will teach us, through the eyes of Winston Windflower that family is a title given to those we hold dearly to our hearts. We extend it to those who come into our lives and, no matter what, through thick or thin, seem to stay. DNA is not always shared, but the feeling is undeniably there. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is more important than family.

I highly recommend this emotionally charged cosy police procedural or what I refer to as a brosy mystery.
